APPROACH
Conduct stakeholder workshop with NBC's Internal Marketing team to understand their user segments (Job Seekers, the Press, Consumers, Investors) and gather requirements across Marketing, Human Resources, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Collaborate with content strategist to define modular component system. Create page template wireframes and interactive timeline prototype.
Wireframe (Homepage, Desktop) – The new site is built on a scalable structure that can quickly adapt to meet NBCUniversal's ever-changing communication needs and messaging priorities.

Wireframe (Newsroom Landing Page, Desktop) – An important business objective for NBCU stakeholders was to minimize the editorial burden on-site owners while keeping the site content fresh and up-to-date with a consistent publishing cadence. So we leveraged NBCU brands' many existing news feeds and social media APIs to generate rich, dynamic content with little manual effort.
Wireframe (Newsroom Landing Page, Mobile)
UI Design (Homepage, Desktop) – We implemented a modular card system that accommodates a wealth of content types and makes it simple to change the page layout and visual hierarchy to match messaging priorities.

Revised Taxonomy + Navigation Design – We flattened and widened the site's information architecture to enable users to find important content with fewer clicks. For example, the navigation bar focuses more on the company narrative (e.g., About Us, Our History), and the Businesses tab offers a more simplified way for users to learn more about NBCUniversal businesses. Simply hover over each division, and a business card pops up with a quick summary.
Prototype (Interactive Company Timeline) – The immersive, interactive timeline page allows users to scroll manually or navigate via decade to explore archival multimedia content. We simulated the experience with a rigged path interactive prototype in Keynote to test with users.
Interactive Company Timeline – A timeline that documents NBCU's journey from broadcasting pioneer to one of the world’s premier media and entertainment companies is a powerful, elegant way to tell the brand's story. We worked with NBCU to surface major milestones and ensured that the new timeline could easily be updated by staff.
OUTCOME
The responsive site we delivered increased findability through a simplified taxonomy, automated CMS publishing workflows to minimize editorial burden, and conveyed NBC's rich brand history through an interactive timeline. For more info, read the full case study from Code & Theory.
